Hello,
I am a UH-60 pilot in the US Army, currently deployed to Iraq until November of this year. When not deployed, I am stationed with my wife and two children in Ansbach, Germany. I will be leaving the Army in March of 2012 at the end of my 6 year contract, and am planning on moving my family to Spain as my wife is from there. I intend to continue to work as a helo pilot after separating from the Army, but need to get my JAA CPL(H) for that to be possible in Europe. I currently have 1400 hours helicopter time, which will be more like 1700 hours by March 2012 when I get out of the service. About 1300 hours of that is dual-engine turbine time in the UH-60, with the remaining hundred hours being in a Bell 206. I currently hold an FAA CPL(H) with IR. I currently have around 800 pilot-in-command hours. I would like to pursue a JAA CPL(H) with IR, a JAA CFI rating, and several type ratings. I am currently looking at different schools and trying to figure out the plan that would give me the best training, but would also get me working as fast as possible following my leaving the army. Obviously cost is also a consideration, and my GI Bill benefits as a veteran make doing the training in the US an advantage. Given my experience, is it possible to tailor a program to fit my training needs in pursuing the JAA CPL, or would it be necessary for me to complete the entire 48 week cource? Is it possible to do some of the theory portions through distance learning from my home in Germany? Any information you could provide to help me in my training decision would be much appreciated.
Regards,
